WebP to PNG: Convert Many Files and Keep See-Through Areas

A WebP saved from a website often will not open in an older editor, a print tool or a form that only takes PNG. Drop the files here, pick a size and a rule for photo details, and download PNG copies one by one or as a ZIP.

Your WebP files are read and converted inside this page and are not sent to any server. Only your size and photo detail choices are remembered on your own device.

When a WebP file is the wrong kind of file

The usual story is simple. You save a picture from a live site, or a teammate sends one from a recent export, and the program you need refuses it. A PNG is the safe fallback, since almost every editor, slide tool and upload form accepts one.

Drop one file, many files or a whole folder onto the box, or click to choose them. The list shows each picture as it finishes. Use Download PNG for a single file, Download all as ZIP for a batch, or Save all to a folder if your browser lets a page write to a folder you pick.

Transparent areas in the WebP stay see-through in the PNG, so a logo with a clear background does not pick up a white box on the way.

The two settings and what each one changes

SettingChoicesEffect on the file
SizeFull size, or 3840, 2560, 1920, 1280 or 800 px on the longest sideA picture bigger than the limit is scaled down with its shape kept. A smaller picture is left alone.
Photo detailsKeep date, remove location; keep all, with location; remove allDecides whether the date taken, the camera and the place travel into the PNG.

There is no quality slider on this page. The PNG is written without a quality setting, so the only ways to change its weight are the size limit and the choice of picture.

Changing a setting converts every picture in the list again, so you can try a smaller size on a whole batch without dropping the files a second time.

A worked batch, start to finish

Say a product folder holds forty WebP shots from a site export, and the print shop wants PNG. Drop the folder. While the list fills, set the size to 2560 px so any oversized shot is scaled down, and leave the photo details on the default so the place data is stripped. Press Download all as ZIP and the whole set arrives in one archive.

If the shop then says the files are too heavy, pick 1920 px from the same menu. The list converts again from the files you already dropped, so there is nothing to upload or select a second time.

For a mixed folder, for example some PNG and some JPG next to the WebP files, the general image converter takes every common type in one pass.

Choices worth making before you press anything

  • Share a picture publicly? Leave the location rule on the default, which removes the place but keeps the date, or remove everything.
  • Printing or archiving? Keep the size at full and keep all details, so nothing is thrown away.
  • Putting it back on a page? Choose a size limit that matches the largest spot the picture will fill.
  • Many files? Use the ZIP, which gives each file its date taken instead of the time you converted it.

A PNG made from a WebP can be larger than the file you started with, so look at the file size before the picture goes back onto a live page. Our guide to speeding up small sites covers how picture weight shows up in page speed.

What this page cannot do

  • Converting does not add detail. If the WebP was heavily compressed, the PNG keeps those flaws exactly as they are.
  • An animated WebP becomes a single still PNG made from its first frame.
  • A file the browser cannot decode will be named in the list with a reason, instead of silently failing.
  • Colour profile handling follows the original file where it can, but a very unusual profile may look slightly different in some viewers.

Frequently asked questions

Why would I turn a WebP into a PNG?

Some editors, print shops, email clients and upload forms still reject WebP. A PNG opens almost everywhere, so converting is the quickest way past the error.

Does the PNG keep a transparent background?

Yes. See-through parts of the WebP stay see-through in the PNG, and there is no background colour to choose on this page.

Will the picture look sharper afterwards?

No. The PNG holds the same pixels the WebP held. If the WebP had visible blocks or blur, they will be in the PNG too.

Can I convert a whole folder?

Yes. Drop the folder onto the box, or choose several files at once. Everything is converted one after the other and listed with its own download link.

Why is the PNG so much bigger?

The two formats store pixels in different ways, and the PNG here is written without a quality control. Lowering the longest side is the main way to bring the size down.

Where does the date taken go?

By default the date is kept and the location is removed. Pick Remove all to drop everything, or Keep all to carry the date, camera and place across.

Is there a limit on how many files I can add?

The page sets no count of its own. Very large batches simply take longer, because every file is decoded and saved in your browser tab.
