Image Converter: Pick the Output Format and Convert a Mixed Folder

One page for the usual format problems. Choose JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF or ICO at the top, drop in whatever you have, even a mix of types, and get converted copies back with the settings that matter for that format.

Convert to

Pictures are opened and converted inside this page and are not uploaded. Your format settings are remembered on your own device.

A mixed folder and one target format

A client folder rarely holds one kind of file. There is a HEIC from a phone, a PNG from a design tool, a WebP saved from the web and an SVG logo. The target is one format, for example JPG. Pick it with the buttons at the top, drop everything in, and each file is converted in turn.

Accepted inputs are HEIC, AVIF, WebP, PNG, JPG, GIF, BMP, TIFF, ICO and SVG. You can also drop a folder or paste a picture with Ctrl+V, or Command+V on a Mac.

The list names each file with its new type and size, and a note appears when a file needed special handling.

What changes with each output format

OutputSettings that appear
JPGQuality, background for see-through parts, size, photo details
PNGSize and photo details
WebPQuality, a lossless option, size, photo details
AVIFQuality, size, photo details. Only offered if your browser can write AVIF.
ICOIcon sizes from 16 to 256 px, with 16, 32, 48 and 256 ticked at the start

Quality runs from 40 to 100 and starts at 90. The lossless box keeps every pixel when saving WebP. Size can cap the longest side at 3840, 2560, 1920, 1280 or 800 pixels. If your browser cannot make AVIF, a note says so, and a current Chrome can.

Notes on particular inputs

  • SVG: drawn at the width you give, from 16 to 8000 px, starting at 1024, with its own proportions.
  • Animated pictures and multi-page TIFF files: only the first frame or page is converted.
  • HEIC: read by the browser when it can, otherwise by a reader loaded on the page.
  • Files a browser cannot open, such as RAW or PSD: named in the list with a plain reason.
  • See-through parts going to JPG: filled with white or black, your choice.

Photo details and file names

The Photo details menu has three rules. Keep date, remove location is the starting one. Keep all carries the date, the camera and the place. Remove all leaves none of them. The ZIP gives each file the date it was taken, so a folder sorted by date stays in order.

Changing any setting converts the whole list again from the files you dropped, so you can try WebP and then JPG without choosing the pictures again.

Nothing here edits the pictures themselves beyond the format, the size cap and the background fill.

Choosing the format for a website

Match the format to the job. Use a format with see-through parts for logos on coloured sections, and a lighter lossy format for photographs. If you are weighing a change for your whole site, our Webflow development team plans picture formats with the page layouts instead of fixing them later.

Convert a few files to different formats, compare the sizes in the list and look at each result at full size before you decide.

Three habits that save re-doing the work

  1. Change the output format first, then the size, then the quality. Each change redoes the batch.
  2. Keep the source files in their own folder. A converted copy has already lost whatever the new format drops.
  3. Name the ZIP by what it holds, such as the format and the size cap, before you send it on.

Frequently asked questions

Which formats can I convert from?

HEIC, AVIF, WebP, PNG, JPG, GIF, BMP, TIFF, ICO and SVG. Files a browser cannot open are listed with the reason.

Which formats can I convert to?

JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF and ICO. AVIF depends on your browser being able to write it.

Can I convert different types in one go?

Yes. Drop a mix and every file is converted to the output you picked at the top.

What is the lossless box for?

It appears for WebP and keeps every pixel as it is, so the file is usually bigger than a normal WebP.

What about animated GIFs?

Only the first frame is converted, so you get a still picture.

Does anything get uploaded?

No. Opening, converting and saving all happen in your browser tab.

Why is AVIF missing or greyed out?

Your browser may not be able to make AVIF files. The page shows a note when that is the case.

Can I make an ICO here as well?

Yes. Choose ICO at the top, tick the icon sizes you want and download the file. For a favicon set with the HTML lines, use the PNG to ICO page.
