HEIC to JPG: Make iPhone Photos Open Anywhere
Change HEIC photos into ordinary JPG files that a website form, a client or an older computer will accept. Drop one photo, many, or a whole folder, and decide what to do with the date and location.
Your photos are read and converted here in the browser, so none are sent away. The last settings you used are kept on this device alone.
The upload that says the file is not allowed
You pick a photo from your phone, and the form refuses it. Many iPhone photos are saved as HEIC files, and a lot of web forms, content systems and older programs only accept JPG or PNG. Converting them is the simple way out.
Drop HEIC photos on the page or click to choose them. You can add one photo, many photos, or a whole folder. Each photo is listed as it converts, with its size before and after. Because the files stay on your computer, this suits private pictures such as documents and ID photos taken for an application.
The settings that matter
| Setting | Choices | Why you might change it |
|---|---|---|
| Quality | A slider | Lower it for smaller files, raise it for photos you will edit further |
| Size | Full size, or a longest side of 3840, 2560, 1920 or 1280 px | Reduce a very large photo to fit an upload limit |
| Photo details | Keep date, remove location; Keep all, with location; Remove all | Decide what travels with the picture |
Changing any setting converts every photo in the list again, so you do not need to start over to try a different size.
Location data and photos you share
A phone photo can record where it was taken. If you are sending a picture to a stranger, posting it on a public page or attaching it to a listing, that detail may reveal a home address. The first Photo details choice keeps the date of the photo, which is handy for sorting, while dropping the place. Remove all strips everything, and Keep all, with location keeps the lot, which suits your own backup.
- Choose Keep date, remove location for pictures you will publish.
- Choose Keep all only for files that stay with you.
Getting the files out
Press Download JPG to save a single photo, Download all as ZIP for the batch, or Save all to a folder to write the files straight into a folder of your choice. The first time you convert a HEIC file, the page may load a small reader into your browser, which takes a moment. After that, further photos convert without waiting for it again.
If many photos make a gallery heavy once converted, the next job is image size. Our guide on speeding up small sites explains why it matters before you publish them.
What to expect from the result
- JPG is a compressed format, so each conversion trades a little detail for compatibility.
- Keep the original HEIC files until you have checked the JPG copies.
- Set the Size down only when you need to, since you cannot get the pixels back later.
- Check the file names after converting, because duplicates from different folders are given a number so that none is lost.
A quick check for forms and portals
- Read the form's own rules for file type and size.
- Convert the photos with a quality that keeps faces and text clear.
- Lower the Size setting only if the file is still too large.
- Choose Keep date, remove location when the photo will be seen by others.
- Open one converted file on another device to be sure it displays properly.
Doing this once for the whole batch is far quicker than fixing the photos one by one when each upload fails.
Working with a folder of photos
After a trip, an event or a site visit you may have a few hundred pictures. Drop the folder and the tool queues every photo and works through them side by side. The page keeps a list so you can see which ones are done. Photos that share a name from two folders receive a number in brackets, so none overwrite another.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert HEIC to JPG?
Drop your HEIC photos on the page. They convert straight away, and you can download each JPG or the whole set as a ZIP.
Can I convert many iPhone photos at once?
Yes. Add many files or a whole folder together, then use Download all as ZIP or Save all to a folder.
Will the JPG keep the date the photo was taken?
Yes, with either of the first two Photo details choices. Remove all strips the date as well.
How do I remove the location from a photo?
Pick Keep date, remove location, or Remove all, under Photo details, before downloading.
Why is my JPG larger than the HEIC?
HEIC is usually the more compact format, so a JPG of the same picture can come out larger. Lower the quality or the Size setting to bring it down.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. They are converted inside your browser and stay on your device.
