Image Resizer: Exact Sizes, Social Presets and No Upload

Resize one picture or a batch to an exact width and height, or by a percentage. Keep the shape, crop to fill a frame, or stretch if you must, and see the before and after side by side.

Pictures are opened, resized and saved inside this page and are never uploaded. Your last settings are remembered in this browser, and you can clear them with Reset settings.

Resize by pixels or by percent

The Resize by switch picks the method. With Pixels you type a width, a height or both. With Percent you give one number from 1 to 400, and the buttons for 25, 50 and 75 percent cover the common cases.

Type only a width, or only a height, and the other side follows to keep the shape. Type both and the Shape menu decides what happens when they do not match the picture.

Both methods start from the picture as you dropped it, so changing from percent to pixels and back does not stack the changes on top of each other.

Fit, crop or stretch

ShapeWhat the picture doesBest for
Keep the shape, fit insideShrinks to sit inside the box you typed, nothing is cutProduct pictures, anything you must not trim
Crop to fill the exact sizeFills the box and trims whatever sticks outThumbnails and cards that need identical frames
Stretch to the exact sizeForces the picture into the boxRare cases, since shapes get distorted

Presets for common frames

Six one click presets fill the width and height for you: 1080 by 1080, 1080 by 1350, 1080 by 1920, 1280 by 720, 1920 by 1080 and 3840 by 2160. Pair them with Crop to fill and a gallery of mixed shots turns into a set of matching frames.

These are only starting numbers. Always check the size the platform or the layout actually asks for.

Slips that cost people time

  1. Typing both numbers while Keep the shape is chosen, then wondering why one side is smaller. Fit inside never breaks the proportions.
  2. Using stretch to force a frame and ending up with squashed faces. Crop to fill is almost always the better choice.
  3. Resizing the same file repeatedly. Start each round from the original.
  4. Forgetting that a changed setting redoes the whole batch, which is useful but takes a moment on big folders.

Reset settings clears the remembered choices if the page seems to be acting on old values.

File type, quality and photo details

  • Save as: keep the same type, or switch to JPG, PNG or WebP.
  • Quality: 40 to 100, starting at 85, used for JPG and WebP.
  • Never make a picture bigger: ticked at the start, so a small picture stays small instead of being blown up and blurred.
  • Photo details: remove them all, keep them without the place, or keep them all. They can only travel from a JPG to a JPG.
  • Progressive JPG: a JPG that shows a rough version first and sharpens as it loads.
  • Full colour detail: keeps colour sharp in JPGs of screenshots and text.

If a see-through PNG is set to save as JPG, the page keeps it as a PNG and says so, so clear areas are not lost without a warning.

Resizing for a live site

Large camera files are the most common cause of a heavy page. Resize to the largest size the layout shows, not the size the camera made. Our small site speed guide explains where picture size fits among the other speed fixes.

Use the compare view on the first picture, then check a few in the list at full size before downloading the ZIP.

Frequently asked questions

How do I resize without changing the shape?

Type only a width or only a height, or leave Keep the shape, fit inside selected. The other side is worked out for you.

What does Never make a picture bigger do?

It stops a picture that is smaller than your target from being enlarged. It stays at its own size, which avoids a blurry result.

Can I resize many pictures at once?

Yes. Drop them all, set the size once, and download one by one or as a ZIP.

Which setting crops?

Choose Crop to fill the exact size. The picture fills the box and the parts that stick out are trimmed.

Does resizing remove the location from my photo?

That depends on the Photo details menu. Remove them all takes out camera, date and place. Keep them, but not the place, leaves the rest.

Why was my PNG saved as a PNG when I asked for a JPG?

A see-through PNG would lose its clear areas as a JPG, so the page keeps it a PNG and shows a note beside the file.

Can I paste a picture from my clipboard?

Yes. Copy the picture, click on the page and press Command V or Ctrl V. It joins the list like any file.
