Image Cropper with Fixed Shapes, Social Sizes and Straighten
Drag a box over the part of the picture you want to keep, or pick a shape or a named size and let the box lock to it. Add more pictures and the same crop is used for all of them, saved together in a ZIP.
Drag the box or its handles, or drag on the picture for a new box. With the box selected, arrow keys move it and Shift moves it 10 times further.
Your pictures are opened and cut in your browser and are never uploaded. Your shape, format, quality and grid choices are remembered on your own device, but not your pictures.
Cutting a picture to fit the place it is going
A team photo has to become a square profile picture. A product photo needs a tall version for a story and a wide version for a banner. The crop is a design decision, because it decides what the viewer sees first, and a tool that locks the box to the right shape makes that choice quicker.
Drop a picture, paste one, or choose files. PNG, JPG, WebP and HEIC are accepted. Drag the box, pull its handles on any side, or drag on the picture to draw a new box. With the box selected, the arrow keys move it by a pixel, and Shift moves it ten times further. The boxes for left, top, width and height let you type exact pixel values.
Shapes, sizes and the circle
| Menu | Choices |
|---|---|
| Shape | Free, the original shape, 1:1, 4:5, 3:4, 2:3, 3:2, 4:3, 16:9, 9:16 and a circle |
| Size | Named sizes for Instagram, stories, a YouTube thumbnail and banner, an X header and profile photo, Facebook page cover and picture, and a LinkedIn page cover |
A named size locks the box to that shape and saves the picture at those exact pixels. Platforms change their layouts from time to time, so check the current size on the platform before an important upload. The list is a quick starting point, not an official rule.
The circle shape makes a round picture with see-through corners. Because JPG cannot hold transparency, a circle crop saved as JPG is saved as PNG instead, and the page says so.
Rotate, flip and straighten before you cut
- Rotate turns the picture in steps of 90 degrees, left or right.
- Flip mirrors it side to side or top to bottom.
- Straighten is a slider for a small angle, useful for a horizon that leans. The picture is zoomed just enough that no empty corners show.
- Show the thirds grid adds guide lines that help place a subject off centre.
- Reset puts the turns back to zero.
Do the straightening first and the crop second, because the box then follows the corrected picture.
Saving, and doing many pictures at once
Under Save, choose the format: the same as the picture, JPG, PNG or WebP. The quality slider goes from 50 to 100 and starts at 92. Lower values give smaller files for lossy formats.
- Add the first picture and set the box.
- Use Add more pictures to bring in the rest.
- Check each one in the list. The same crop settings apply, and you can adjust the box for any single picture.
- Choose Download this one, or download all of them as a ZIP.
If the cropped pictures are for a website, file weight and dimensions matter for speed. Our website optimization and conversion improvements service covers the image side of a slow page.
Habits for cleaner crops
- Crop from the largest original you have. A crop of a crop loses detail twice.
- Leave a little room around a face, since a tight crop looks cramped on a round profile picture.
- Use a ratio shape when the destination is fixed, and a free box when you are only trimming.
- Check that the saved size is big enough. A small box on a small picture gives a small file.
Frequently asked questions
Can I crop several pictures the same way?
Yes. Add more pictures and the same crop settings are used for each one. You can then save them together in a ZIP.
How do I make a circular crop?
Choose Circle under Shape. The corners outside the circle become see-through, so the result is saved as a PNG even if you picked JPG.
How do I move the crop box precisely?
Select the box and use the arrow keys for one pixel at a time, or hold Shift for ten. You can also type exact numbers for left, top, width and height.
Can I fix a crooked horizon?
Yes. The straighten slider turns the picture by a small angle and zooms just enough to hide empty corners.
Does cropping reduce the quality?
Cropping itself does not blur the pixels you keep. Saving as JPG or WebP at a lower quality does add compression, so keep the slider high for important pictures.
Are my pictures uploaded?
No. They are opened and cut in your browser, and they stay on your computer.
