Mirror Image Tool: Flip, Half Mirror and Reflection Effects

Turn a picture the other way round, build a symmetrical version from one half, or put a soft reflection under it like water. The preview is live, and every picture you add gets the same treatment.

Your pictures are flipped in your browser and are never uploaded. Your last settings are kept on your own device for next time, and there is a button to clear them.

Two different jobs in one page

The first job is plain correction. A selfie taken with a front camera can come out mirrored, so text on a shirt or a sign reads backwards. A product photo may face the wrong way for a layout where the item should point toward the headline. A simple flip fixes both.

The second job is a creative effect. Mirroring one half of a face or a landscape gives a symmetrical image, and a reflection beneath a product makes it look as if it stands on a glossy surface. Both are built from the picture you load, drawn live from a smaller copy and saved at full size.

All the choices on the page

SettingOptions
FlipLeft to right, upside down or both. The keys H and V switch the flip too
Mirror effectLeft half mirrored, right half mirrored, top half mirrored, bottom half mirrored, or reflection below
Reflection lengthHow much of the picture's height the reflection takes
StrengthHow visible the reflection is before it fades out
GapThe space between the picture and its reflection
BackgroundSee-through for PNG, white or black, behind the reflection area
FormatThe same as the picture, JPG, PNG which keeps see-through parts, or WebP

The reflection settings only appear when you choose the reflection effect. The reflection is the bottom of the picture flipped and faded away with a mask, and it makes the saved picture taller than the original.

From file to finished picture

  1. Drop pictures onto the page, paste one, or click to choose. The page reads JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and HEIC.
  2. Pick a flip, or pick a mirror effect from the list.
  3. For a reflection, set the length, strength and gap, and choose a background that suits where the picture will go.
  4. Check the preview, then download this one, or download everything as a ZIP.

Saved files get a name that says what was done: the original name plus mirrored, reflection or symmetry.

Where each effect earns its place

A plain flip is the quiet one, and it covers the bulk of everyday jobs. Use it when a photo faces away from the content it sits beside, or when a camera app has reversed the scene. A half mirror suits abstract art, patterns, backgrounds and playful posters, where a perfect match on both sides is the point. A reflection suits a single object on a clean background, such as a bottle, a phone or a pair of shoes, because the fade needs empty space under the subject to look natural.

If a picture has a busy bottom edge, the reflection will copy that clutter, so crop the picture first or choose a flip instead.

Small details that change the result

  • Faces are rarely symmetrical. A half mirror shows the left side of a face twice, or the right side twice, and the two look different. Try both.
  • Put the dividing line in the right place. The halves are split down the middle of the picture, so a subject that sits off centre will break.
  • Match the background to the page. A reflection with a white background looks wrong on a dark page. Use the see-through option with PNG instead.
  • Keep the format in mind. A JPG cannot keep see-through parts, so a reflection meant for a coloured page should be saved as PNG or WebP.
  • Do not flip text on purpose. A mirrored sign or logo looks wrong to anyone who knows the brand.

Product images with reflections are a common sight on landing pages. Our guide to hero section design looks at how the first image on a page does its work.

Frequently asked questions

Does flipping a picture lower its quality?

A flip only rearranges pixels. If you save as JPG, the file is compressed again, so use PNG when you want no change in quality.

How do I fix a mirrored selfie?

Choose Left to right under Flip. The text and the scene then read the way they would to a viewer.

How do I make a symmetrical picture?

Pick one of the half mirror effects. The chosen half is copied onto the other side, so you get a matching pair.

Can the reflection have a see-through background?

Yes, choose the see-through background and save as PNG. WebP also works. JPG cannot keep transparency.

Can I flip many pictures at once?

Yes. Add several files and each gets the same flip or effect. Save them one at a time or as a ZIP.

Is my picture uploaded?

No. The flipping happens in your browser. Your settings are kept on your device only.
