Webflow vs Static Site on Cloudflare: What We Learned
We moved amariq.com from Webflow to a hand-coded static site on Cloudflare. Real costs, the checks that matter, and who each platform suits.
Web Design
Most "best Astro agency" lists are written by an agency that ranks itself first. This one lists four studios in alphabetical order, quotes only what their own pages say, and adds the hosting rules and questions that decide whether a static site is a good deal for you. Everything was read on 23 October 2026.
If you are a large organisation moving off a legacy CMS, start with Bejamas. If you are a funded company that has outgrown a template site and wants a fixed scope and launch date, look at Goodspeed. If your marketing team feels boxed in by a platform, Lucky Media says that is its core work. If you are a small business that wants an Astro site and search work together, Digital Elevator describes that in its own article. For a small site with one editor, you may not need an agency at all, as we explain below.
Who is writing: Amariq is a web design studio. We run our own site as a hand-coded static site on Cloudflare, and we write about it in Webflow vs a static site on Cloudflare. Our client work is on Webflow, Framer, WordPress and Shopify, so we have left ourselves off this list on purpose. We are not paid by any studio below.
We looked at what Google showed on 23 October 2026 for "best astro web development agencies": Astro's own partner page, a roundup from Digital Elevator, one from EnactOn, one from Online Optimism, and studio pages from Goodspeed and others. Then we opened each studio's own website. We included a studio only if its own page was readable and stated what it does. Opace appeared in several lists, but we could not open a page of its own to cite, so it is left out rather than described from someone else's words.
Order: alphabetical. That is the whole rule.
| Studio | Where it says it works | What its page says it does | Prices on its page |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bejamas | North America and Europe | Audits, migrates and runs sites on Astro or Next.js with a headless CMS | None |
| Digital Elevator | Not stated | Astro sites on Cloudflare, plus search and AI visibility work | From $6,000 for web design, in its own article |
| Goodspeed | Not stated | Astro builds for funded teams, headless CMS setup, migrations, a monthly retainer | None; a calculator and a free 20 minute call |
| Lucky Media | Dallas, Texas | Next.js and Astro marketing sites, headless CMS work, platform migrations | None |
Astro's own partner page lists Bejamas, with the line "North America / Europe" and a client list that includes Alpro (Danone), Costa Coffee and SumUp. Bejamas's own site describes four steps: audit, design, migrate and run. It names Astro and Next.js, the CMSs Contentful, Sanity and Storyblok, and hosting on Vercel, Netlify or Cloudflare. It also says it is ISO 27001 certified. The page does not list a price or a timeline. Its case-study figures are its own, so ask for the sites behind them.
Digital Elevator is a search and AI visibility agency. In its own article, last updated 17 September 2026, it says it builds with Astro 5 and static output on the Cloudflare edge, that web design starts at $6,000, scoped and priced upfront, and that static hosting costs nothing a month. The same article ranks Digital Elevator first, and it says so openly. Treat the numbers as the studio's claims and confirm them in a quote.
Goodspeed calls itself an "Astro development agency for funded teams". Its page lists Astro development, headless CMS setup with Sanity, Contentful or Storyblok, migrations, speed and SEO tuning, and a monthly retainer. It promises a fixed scope and launch date, says changed URLs get a 301 redirect, and says titles, canonicals and structured data are checked page by page before launch. It lists no prices. Its headline statistics, such as how many products it has shipped, are its own and we did not check them.
Lucky Media is based in Dallas, Texas. Its home page lists marketing websites, headless CMS solutions and platform migrations, and mentions Next.js, Astro, Contentful and Statamic. One case study on the page is a Chainguard website rebuild in 30 days, which is the studio's claim. No prices are shown.
A static site is hosted on someone's account, and the plan decides what you pay and what you are allowed to do.
| Platform | What its docs say (read 23 Oct 2026) | What to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare Pages | Free plan: 500 builds a month, 20,000 files per site, 25 MiB per file, 100 custom domains per project | Who owns the Cloudflare account? |
| Cloudflare Workers | Astro's docs say Cloudflare recommends Workers for new projects, and that Pages projects have a migration guide | Is the build set up for Workers or Pages? |
| Vercel | Hobby is for non-commercial personal use. Commercial use, including being paid to create or update the site, needs Pro or Enterprise | Which plan, and who pays for it? |
The Vercel rule matters most for buyers. If an agency builds your business site on its own free Hobby account, it is outside Vercel's terms as written on its fair use page, last updated 14 September 2026. Ask for the project to sit under an account in your name, on the right plan.
Vercel publishes a solution partner directory. On 23 October 2026 it listed 116 partners with tiers named Platinum (15 partners), Gold (12), Silver and Enrolled (12), and 115 of the 116 listed Next.js as a framework. The page does not say how a partner earns a tier, so a tier is a starting point for questions, not proof of quality. Bejamas appears in the list.
We read the Digital Elevator roundup in full. Its seven agencies are each matched to a use case, and the author discloses that the article ranks its own firm first. In that article, and in the search listings of the others, three things were missing.
Our guide to choosing a web design agency covers the wider checks, and hiring an offshore agency safely covers the extra care needed when the team is far away.
If the site has one technical editor, a few dozen pages and no logins, you may be better with a builder or a tool you control. Compare the options in our Webflow alternatives by use case, and see what a hosted builder really costs in our Webflow cost guide.
If a static site is not the right fit, we build on Webflow, Framer, WordPress and Shopify, priced from the scope of the project and never by the hour. We take 40% to begin, 30% when you approve the design and 30% ahead of launch. On final payment the design, copy and code are yours, with the domain, hosting and analytics accounts held in your name. Start with our Webflow or WordPress service pages.
A static site is a set of ready-made pages served from a content network, with no database behind each visit. Astro builds them from components. A page that needs interaction loads a little script only where it is needed.
For a content-led marketing site, Astro is built to send less script to the browser. Next.js suits sites that need heavier app features. Both appear in the studio pages above, so ask the studio why it recommends one.
Few studios publish prices. Of the four above, only Digital Elevator states a figure, from $6,000 for web design in its own article. Ask for a written scope and a fixed price.
Yes for hosting. Cloudflare's free plan allows 500 builds a month and 20,000 files per site. You still pay for the domain and for the people who build and edit the site.
Vercel's fair use page says Hobby teams are for non-commercial personal use only, and commercial use needs Pro or Enterprise. Check the page and the current terms before you rely on it.
Speed helps, but it does not replace good content and a clear structure. Keep your URLs or redirect every changed address, and carry over Search Console and analytics.
Ask for live sites, run a free speed test on them, and ask for the redirect plan from a past migration. Treat percentages and counts on a studio's page as claims until you see the evidence.
