Fancy Text Generator: Copy-and-Paste Styled Letters for Bios and Posts
Type a line and see it in dozens of styles at once, each with its own copy button. Star the ones you like to keep them at the top, and use Make plain to turn styled text back to ordinary letters.
Styled letters are not normal letters. Screen readers may read them as maths symbols one by one or skip them, and searches do not find them. Keep names, links and key words plain, and style one or two words rather than a whole message.
The styles are made in your browser and what you type is never uploaded. Only the styles you star are kept on your own device.
What these letters really are
Platforms that allow only plain text cannot bold a word, so people paste letters from other parts of the Unicode set that merely look bold, curly or round. That is all this tool does. It swaps each plain letter for a look-alike character, so the styled line can be pasted into any field that takes text, such as a social bio or a chat message.
Type in the box and every style updates together. Press Copy beside the one you want.
Nothing here changes the meaning of your words, only how each character is drawn on screen.
Groups of styles
| Group | Examples |
|---|---|
| Maths letters | Bold, italic, script, fraktur, double-struck, sans, monospace |
| Enclosed | Circled, filled circles, squared, parenthesised |
| Width and size | Full width, small capitals, superscript |
| Marks added to letters | Strikethrough, underline, double underline, slashed |
| Flipped | Upside down |
Some styles have no form for every character. A note under a row tells you when some of your letters could not be styled and were left as they are.
Use styled text carefully
Styled letters are not ordinary letters, and that has real costs.
- Screen readers may read them as maths symbols one by one, or skip them.
- Search will not match them, so a styled word is invisible to people looking for it.
- Some fonts and older devices show an empty box in place of a character.
Keep names, links and key words plain, and style one or two words instead of a whole message. Do not use styled letters for a page title, a button or a form label on a website, where plain, real text serves everyone better. Our conversion guide notes that clear, readable labels are part of a page that works.
Turning styled text back
If you have text that arrived styled, paste it in and press Make plain. Every styled character the tool knows is mapped back to its normal letter or digit, which is useful for cleaning a name before it goes into a spreadsheet or a search box.
Where styled text is seen
Styled text turns up in profile bios, usernames, post openers and chat names, where plain text is the only option. It draws the eye in a list of similar items, which is why people use it for one short phrase. It is much weaker for long messages, where it is slow to read and can look noisy.
Picking a style that suits the job
- Bold and sans bold stay readable and fit most short headings.
- Script and gothic suit names and one-off words, but get hard to read in small sizes.
- Circled and squared work for a single letter or a number, such as an item count.
- Strikethrough and underline are added as marks over normal letters, so they depend on the font.
- Upside down is a novelty and reverses the order of the characters.
Limits worth knowing
Because the output is made of other characters, the length in characters can differ from what you typed. Some styled letters take more storage than a plain one, so a field that counts by size may fill sooner than you expect. If a post has a strict limit, paste the styled result into the character counter and check it there before you publish.
Keeping favourites
Click the star on a style and it moves to the top for next time. The list of starred styles is the only thing stored, in this browser, and the text you type is not.
Frequently asked questions
How do I copy fancy text?
Type your text, find the style you like and press the Copy button beside it. Then paste it where you want it.
Why do some letters not change?
A few styles do not have a form for every character, so those characters stay plain. The page says so under the row.
Will fancy text work on every site?
Mostly, since it is plain text made of special characters. A few fonts and older devices may show a box instead of a letter.
Is fancy text good for SEO?
No. Search engines and screen readers do not treat these characters as the normal letters, so keep important words plain.
How do I turn it back to normal text?
Paste it into the box and press Make plain.
Is anything saved?
Only your starred styles, on your own device. The text you type is not stored or uploaded.
