What a Wix Website Really Costs in Year One: Three Worked Examples With the Extras Added In

Search for this and you mostly get a price range, such as $17 to $159 a month. That is the plan only. This guide adds the other lines a real site pays in its first year (domain, business email, apps and card fees) using prices read from Wix's own pages and Google's on 25 October 2026, then adds them up for three kinds of site. Where a number is our assumption, we say so.

What a Wix Website Really Costs in Year One: Three Worked Examples With the Extras Added In

Key takeaways

  • The plan is the smallest part of some budgets and nearly all of others. A brochure site on Wix's Light plan is $204 for the plan, and about $372 once two business mailboxes are added. A small shop can pass $1,400 once apps and card fees are in.
  • Wix's plans page shows yearly prices paid in full. On 25 October 2026 it listed Light $17, Core $29, Business $39 and Business Elite $159 a month, with taxes extra. Monthly billing is priced differently and we could not read it from the page.
  • The free domain is for one year and for a new domain only. The voucher cannot renew or extend a domain you already own. Wix's own blog lists renewal at $13.35 a year for a .com.
  • Apps are the line that surprises people. Wix says some apps are free and others cost $3 to $20 or more a month.
  • Card fees depend on sales, not on the plan. Wix's blog lists 2.9% plus $0.30 per transaction for most cards in the US. On $20,000 of sales over 400 orders, that is $700.

The short answer

For a simple brochure site with a custom domain and two business mailboxes, expect about $372 in year one. For a service business that takes bookings, expect about $516 to $756. For a small online store that takes $20,000 in card payments, expect about $1,444 to $2,056, most of it apps and fees. All are before tax and before paying anyone to design or write the site, because Wix gives no figure for that.

Disclosure: Amariq is a web design studio that works on Wix among other platforms, and Wix pays us nothing. We have not built these example sites on Wix for this guide, so the totals are arithmetic on published prices, not a test.

What the top results say, and what they leave out

On 25 October 2026 we searched Google (United States, English) for "how much does a wix website cost". The results included Wix's own plans page and two Wix blog posts (29 July and 16 September 2026), LitExtension, a Forbes pricing guide (5 August 2026), Pravaah Consulting (9 October), Outfy (9 October) and Reddit threads. The Forbes page returned an error for us, so we have not read it. We read the Wix blog page on the cost of a Wix website and Pravaah's page.

Wix's own blog gives the range as free to $159 a month and lists the extra cost types: domain renewal, apps, business email through Google Workspace, payment processing and expert help. It gives figures for the first three and for card fees, but none for expert help and no worked total. Pravaah says most small businesses spend $348 to $468 in year one "on the plan alone", names domain renewal, apps and card fees, and gives no amounts for them in the text we could read.

So the gap is simple: the pages list the extras, and none we read adds them up. The Forbes snippet also gives a top price of $172 a month, while Wix's plans page shows $159 for its highest standard plan. We have used Wix's own page.

The Wix plans page says prices are for yearly subscriptions paid in full at the time of purchase, USD prices are shown for reference, prices and currency vary by location and taxes are added at checkout. The Wix blog does not show the year with its July date; we read it on 25 October 2026 and its footer shows 2026. The Google Workspace price is Google's own list price; Wix's blog says it partners with Google Workspace and gives no price, so a price bought through Wix may differ. Check the checkout.

What each plan includes, from the plans page: Light has a custom domain, 2 GB storage and 2 site collaborators, with no payment features listed. Core adds 50 GB storage, accepting payments, basic ecommerce, scheduling and services, and 5 collaborators. Business adds 100 GB, standard ecommerce and 10 collaborators. Business Elite has unlimited storage, advanced ecommerce, an advanced developer platform and 100 collaborators.

Three worked year-one totals

All figures are US dollars before tax. Mailboxes are two users at $7.00 each. App costs use Wix's range of $3 to $20 a month per app.

A. A brochure site on Light

LineCalculationAmount
Light plan$17 x 12$204
DomainFree first year$0
Email$7 x 2 users x 12$168
Total, no paid apps$372
With one paid app$36 to $240 added$408 to $612

Year two: $204 plan + $13.35 domain + $168 email = $385.35 before any app, assuming the plan price stays the same, which we have not checked, so read the renewal price at checkout.

B. A service business that takes bookings on Core

LineCalculationAmount
Core plan$29 x 12$348
DomainFree first year$0
Email$7 x 2 x 12$168
One paid app$3 to $20 a month x 12$36 to $240
Total$552 to $756

If you need no paid app, the total is $516. The $348 plan figure matches Pravaah's low end for a plan-only year.

C. A small online store on Business

This example uses our own assumption of $20,000 in card payments across 400 orders of $50. Change those numbers to your own.

LineCalculationAmount
Business plan$39 x 12$468
DomainFree first year$0
Email$7 x 2 x 12$168
Three paid apps3 x ($3 to $20) x 12$108 to $720
Card fees, percentage2.9% x $20,000$580
Card fees, fixed part$0.30 x 400$120
Total$1,444 to $2,056

Check the arithmetic: $468 + $168 = $636. Adding apps gives $744 to $1,356. Adding $700 in card fees gives $1,444 to $2,056.

For a store, the plan is under a third of the low-end total and the card fees are nearly half. That is why the plan price is a poor guide to what a store costs.

What is not in the totals

  • Design and copy. Building your own site on Wix costs your time. Hiring someone costs what they quote. Wix's blog says expert costs "vary depending on the scope of work" and gives no figure.
  • Tax. Wix says taxes are set by your billing address and added at checkout.
  • Other card types. Wix's blog lists American Express at 3.7% plus $0.30 and PayPal at 3.49% plus $0.49 in the US. Rates vary by location and payment method.
  • Monthly billing. If you pay monthly, the price per month differs from the yearly figure on the plans page, and we did not read it, so do not assume it equals the yearly price divided by twelve.
  • A domain you already own. The free voucher only applies to a new domain bought from Wix, so if you bring your own, you pay your registrar for it.
  • A 14-day money-back guarantee. The plans page states one, which lets you test the paid features before committing for a year. Read its terms on the page.

When the totals start to matter

Wix is the right tool when the site fits inside its plans and you will edit it yourself. The costs above grow with apps and sales, so check again when you add a booking app, an email marketing tool or a second store function. If you are weighing it against another builder, see our Wix vs Squarespace comparison with a two-year table and Wix vs Webflow. For a custom-built site on another platform, the website redesign cost guide and our web design cost calculator worksheet show how to total the same lines.

How Amariq can help

We work on Wix sites as well as Webflow, WordPress, Shopify and Framer, so nothing needs to move for us to help. We can plan the pages and copy, build or tidy a Wix site, and set up forms and tracking. A quote follows the scope and never an hourly rate. Payment is 40% to start, 30% at design approval and 30% before launch, and after the last payment the design, copy and code are yours, with the domain, hosting and analytics accounts in your name. Frequently asked questions

How much does a Wix website cost per year?

On Wix's plans page the four paid plans cost $17, $29, $39 and $159 a month billed yearly, which is $204, $348, $468 and $1,908 a year. Add domain renewal after the first year ($13.35 for a .com per Wix's blog), any email, apps and card fees.

Is a Wix website really free?

Wix's plans page lists a free plan. Wix says you need a Premium plan to connect your own domain and remove Wix branding. The free plan is a way to build and test, not a finished business site.

Do I pay for a domain on Wix?

Most Premium plans include a one-year free domain voucher, valid only with a new domain bought from Wix. Wix's blog lists renewal at $13.35 a year for a .com and $14.95 for a .org.

How much do Wix apps cost?

Wix says some apps are free and others cost $3 to $20 or more a month. Add each one you need to the year-one total.

What are Wix's card fees?

For most cards in the US, Wix's blog lists 2.9% plus $0.30 per transaction, with American Express at 3.7% plus $0.30 and PayPal at 3.49% plus $0.49. Rates vary by location and payment method.

Can I get business email with Wix?

Wix's blog says it partners with Google Workspace. Google's own price for Business Starter is $7.00 per user per month on an annual commitment, excluding tax. Check the price at Wix checkout, which may differ.

Is Wix cheaper than hiring a developer?

It is cheaper to start, because you can build it yourself. A professional build adds design and copy costs that Wix does not publish. Our WordPress cost guide and Shopify cost guide show the same year-one method on other platforms.
