WiFi QR Code Generator with a Card You Can Print and Frame

Type your network name, pick the security type and add the password. You get a code that guests scan to join without typing, plus a card you can print for a desk or a wall.

The card settings are kept in this browser. The network name and password never are.

Made in your browser. Your network name and password are not sent anywhere or saved. Only the card choices, such as colour and paper, are remembered on this computer.

For the reception desk, the cafe table and the spare room

Anyone who has spelled out a long password to a visitor knows the problem. A code on a card solves it. The visitor opens the camera, points it at the card, and the phone offers to join the network.

The page makes two things. The first is the code itself. The second is a card that holds the code with the network name under it, and, if you choose, the password written in text for devices that cannot scan. Set a card title such as Guest Wi-Fi and pick a code colour.

Think about who can read the card. Anyone who can see a printed password can use the network, so print it for places where that is fine.

The fields and what each one does

FieldWhat to enter
Network name (SSID)The name exactly as it appears on a phone, including capitals and spaces
SecurityWPA, WPA2 or WPA3, WEP (old), or No password
PasswordThe Wi-Fi password, with a Hide switch so you can type it unseen
Hidden networkTick it when the router does not broadcast the name
Card with the name under the codeAdds the network name to the card
Write the password on the cardAdds the password in text

For almost every modern home or office network, WPA is the right choice, since it covers WPA, WPA2 and WPA3. Special characters in the name or the password, such as semicolons, colons and quotation marks, are handled for you.

Warnings you may see before printing

The page checks the password against the security type and tells you when something looks wrong. These checks save a printed card that does not work.

  • With WPA chosen and no password typed, it asks for the password or for No password.
  • If the password starts or ends with a space, it asks you to confirm that the space is intended.
  • If a WPA password is outside the length that phones accept, it tells you how many characters you typed, since phones will refuse to join.
  • For WEP, it reminds you to check the key against your router settings.

After a code is made, the page reads it back with a QR reader to confirm it points to the same network.

Saving and printing

Save PNG gives a picture of the card. Save PDF gives a vector card in one of three sizes: the card only, 9 cm wide, or the card 12 cm wide on A4 or on Letter paper. QR only, SVG gives the bare code with no card around it, which suits a design app or a sign you are making. Print opens the print dialog.

Print a test, put it where guests will use it, and scan it with one iPhone and one Android phone. Laminate the card if it will be handled often. When you change the router password, make and print a new card, since the old code carries the old password.

Going further than a card

Some businesses want a guest page, not only a code, for example a welcome page that shows opening hours and a menu. That page is ordinary website work. Our web design and UI/UX service covers designing a small page like that so it works on a phone in a few seconds.

Frequently asked questions

How do guests join with the QR code?

They open the camera on an iPhone or Android phone and point it at the code. The phone offers to join the network, and they confirm.

Is my Wi-Fi password sent anywhere?

No. The code and card are made in your browser. The password is not stored, and the page does not remember it for next time.

What if my network is hidden?

Tick the Hidden network box so the code includes that detail and the phone knows to look for a name it cannot see.

Which security type should I pick?

Pick WPA for most networks. It covers WPA, WPA2 and WPA3. Choose WEP only for an old router, and No password for an open network.

Should I write the password on the card?

It helps people with devices that cannot scan, but anyone who sees the card then sees the password. It is your choice in the card settings.

I changed my router password. What now?

Make a new code. A printed code carries the password that was in place when it was made.
