Username Generator for Handles, Gamer Tags and Brand Names

Type a word or your name, or leave the box empty, and get thirty fresh ideas in the style you pick. Click any name to copy it, then check on the site you want whether it is still free.

Names are made in your browser from a built-in word list and are never sent anywhere. Your last settings, including the word you typed, are kept on your own device so the page opens as you left it.

Finding a handle you will not regret

A username tends to follow you for years. It ends up on a shop login, a Discord server, a code repository, an email signature and sometimes a business card. People who are setting up a new account usually want the same thing: a name that is easy to say out loud, easy to type on a phone and not already taken by someone else with a similar spelling.

This page gives you a list to react to instead of a blank box. Every press of the New ideas button, and every change to a menu, fills the list with thirty names. Click the one you like and it is copied to your clipboard. If you typed a word or your name in the first box, the ideas are built around it. If you left it empty, they are built from the page's own list of friendly words, such as colours, animals, places and weather.

The page cannot know whether a name is free on any site. That check is always yours to make on the sign-up form itself.

    What each style gives you

    StyleWhat it buildsBest for
Two wordsYour word joined to a second word, or two words from the listA friendly general handle
Word and numbersA word followed by two or three digitsWhen the plain word is taken
Short and punchyA short base with a small ending such as ly, io or xApps, projects and tight length limits
GamerA bold word such as shadow or volt, often with a small numberGame profiles and streaming
Pro or brandYour name with an ending such as studio, works or labsFreelancers and small brands
With initialsInitials of the words, then a surname-like wordWork accounts and email-style handles

The numbers the page adds are two or three digits and are chosen so they do not read like a birth year. That is a small privacy habit worth keeping on any public account.

    Controls that change the result

    • Shortest and Longest. Set the length range in characters, from 3 to 30. If nothing fits, the page tells you to widen the range.
    • Between words. Join the parts with nothing, an underscore, a dot or a dash. Dots and dashes look tidy but some sites do not accept them, so read the sign-up rules first.
    • Letters. Choose all lower case, camelCase or UPPER CASE. Lower case is the safest because many sites treat Maya and maya as the same name anyway.
    • Word box. Only letters, digits and spaces are used. Two words, such as a first and last name, unlock extra patterns like initials and swapped order.

Menus redraw the list straight away. The typed boxes redraw a moment after you stop typing, so the list does not shuffle under your pointer while you are about to click a name.

Common mistakes when picking a username

    • Using your full legal name and birth year. It is easy to guess and hard to change later.
    • Choosing something you cannot spell aloud. If you have to say it to a client on a call, a plain two-word name beats clever substitutions of numbers for letters.
    • Picking different handles everywhere. One name across your accounts is easier for people to find. Generate a few options and test them on the three or four sites you care about most.
    • Ignoring length limits. Some services cap names at fewer characters than others. Set the Longest box to the smallest limit you will meet.
    • Treating a handle as a secret. A username is public. Your password is what protects the account.

If the account is for a business and the name will appear on a website, think about it as part of the brand. It is worth sorting out alongside the rest of your visual identity, which is the kind of work our web design and UI/UX projects cover.

    Frequently asked questions

Does the tool check whether a username is taken?

No. It has no way to look inside another site's accounts. Copy the name you like and try it on the sign-up page of the site you want.

Why do I get thirty names each time?

A list gives you more choice than a single suggestion, and you can click the one that feels right. Press New ideas, or change a menu, for a fresh set.

Can I make names from my own name?

Yes. Type a first name, or a first and last name, in the word box. The ideas are then built from what you typed, with your name placed in different positions.

What if I see no names?

Your length range is probably too tight for the style you picked. Raise Longest or lower Shortest and the list fills again.

    Are the names random?

They are picked with your browser's secure random generator from lists of words written for this page. The word lists are short and friendly on purpose, so odd or rude combinations are unlikely.

Is anything saved when I use it?

Your last choices, including the word you typed, are kept on your own device so the page remembers them next time. Nothing is sent to a server.
