OG Image Size Checker: Test Your Share Image
Drop in your link preview image to check it against the numbers Meta publishes, see it as a link card, fit it to 1200 by 630 and download it, and check or write the Open Graph tags. Meta's and the protocol's pages were read on 22 October 2026.

How the checker works
The Image tab reads the picture you plan to use for link previews: its width, height, ratio, format and file size. It compares them with the numbers Meta publishes and shows the picture in three typical card layouts, with an optional safe area. If the picture is the wrong shape or too large, the fitter turns it into a 1200 by 630 image you can download, with a choice of crop or bars, a crop position, a format and a quality setting that shows the resulting file size. The Check tags tab reads a page's HTML that you paste and lists which Open Graph tags are there. The Write tags tab makes the tag block for you to copy. The image is read by your browser and never uploaded.
The numbers Meta lists

| Absolute minimum | 200 × 200 pixels |
| Aspect ratio | About 1.91 : 1, so the whole image shows without cropping |
| Maximum file size | 8 MB |

The Open Graph tags
The Open Graph protocol lists four properties as required on every page: og:title, og:type, og:image and og:url. It also defines structured image properties, og:image:width, og:image:height, og:image:type and og:image:alt, and says a page with an image should include the alt text, which describes the image's content and is not a caption. Pages without markup are treated as type website. The tag checker marks the four required tags and a few useful extras, and the tag writer fills in the width and height from the image you checked. Use a full address, not a relative path. Site builders such as Webflow, WordPress and Shopify have a field for this on each page, and an SEO plugin often sets it for you. If you change the picture and an old preview keeps appearing, the platform that cached it may need to be asked to refresh it. A browser cannot read other sites' pages directly, so this tool does not fetch live pages: paste the page source instead.
Design tips for a share image
- Keep the main text and the face or product inside the safe area in the middle, since previews can crop the sides.
- Use large type that stays readable when the image is shown small.
- Make a different image for each important page, so shared links do not all look the same.
- Keep the file well below the size limit, so it loads quickly when a link is pasted.
Our own guides each carry a share image made for that page. If your site needs a full set, a redesign is a good time to plan it; see our guide to how to choose a web design agency.
Frequently asked questions
What size should an Open Graph image be?
Meta recommends at least 1200 by 630 pixels, with an aspect ratio of about 1.91 to 1, so the full image shows without cropping.
What is the smallest size Meta accepts?
Meta lists 200 by 200 pixels as the minimum. For a large preview it lists 600 by 315 pixels, and says smaller images appear much smaller.
What is the maximum file size?
Meta lists 8 MB. A much smaller file loads faster when someone shares your link.
Which Open Graph tags are required?
The Open Graph protocol lists og:title, og:type, og:image and og:url as required for every page. The tag checker marks them.
Why is my image cropped when I share a link?
The ratio probably differs from 1.91 to 1, or the platform uses a different crop. Use the fitter to make a 1200 by 630 image and keep key content in the safe area.
Can it check my live page?
No. A browser cannot read other sites directly. View the page source, copy it and paste it into the Check tags tab.
Does this tool upload my image?
No. Your browser reads and fits the image locally and nothing leaves your device.
