Add a Border to an Image: Solid, Gradient or Blurred Frame
Wrap a photo in a frame, or pad it out to a square, portrait or story shape so the whole picture fits without cropping. Many pictures can share one border and be saved together.

Corners and depth
Every picture gets the same border. Settings are kept in this browser for next time.
Pictures are framed in your browser and are never uploaded. Your border settings are saved on your own device.
Fit a whole photo to a post without cropping it
Visitors who search for a border tool usually want something practical. They have a wide photo and a square post, and a crop would cut off something important. Padding the picture out to the shape, with a frame filling the extra space, keeps all of it in view.
Drop pictures on the page, paste one, or click to choose. JPG, PNG, WebP and HEIC work, one or many. Every picture receives the same border, and the preview updates as you change a setting. It is drawn small for speed, and the saved file is made at full size.
Four kinds of border
| Choice | Look | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Colour | One flat colour, with a Pick from the screen option to match something you can see | A clean white mat or a brand colour |
| Gradient | A blend of colours across the frame | Social posts that need more energy |
| Blur | A blurred, enlarged copy of the photo behind it | Fitting a tall or wide photo to another shape without plain bars |
| None | No frame at all | Using only the shape, corners or shadow |
Blur is a popular answer to the plain bars that appear when a portrait photo is placed on a landscape canvas, because the border echoes the picture's own colours.
Width and shape
Set the width as a share of the picture, which keeps the frame in proportion across photos of different sizes, or in exact pixels. The Fit to a shape menu pads the result out to a shape of your choice.
- Keep the photo's shape
- Square 1:1
- Portrait 4:5 and Portrait 3:4
- Story 9:16
- Wide 16:9
- Photo print 3:2
When a shape is chosen, the extra space is filled by the border style, so the photo sits whole inside the frame.
Corners, depth and saving
Under Corners and depth you can round the photo's corners, round the outer corners of the whole frame, add a shadow, and draw a thin line around the photo in a colour you choose. Save as JPG, as PNG, which keeps see-through corners, or as WebP. With several pictures loaded you can save each one, or take them all in a ZIP.
- Rounded outer corners need PNG or WebP to stay transparent. In JPG they become a solid colour.
- A thin line works well when a pale photo sits on a pale frame.
- Use the same percent width across a batch so the set looks like a series.
Consistent framing is a small part of visual identity, which our web design and UI/UX work treats as a system rather than one-off choices.
Framing a whole set
A row of product photos with different shapes looks untidy on a page. Giving every one the same shape and the same frame solves that in a single pass. Load the whole set, choose a shape such as Portrait 4:5, pick a border style, and every picture is padded and framed the same way.
- Use a light colour border for a catalogue feel.
- Use the blur border when the photos have strong colour and you want a softer look.
- Use the Pick from the screen option to copy a colour from your logo or page, so the frame matches the brand.
Add more pictures at any time, or press Start again with other pictures to clear the list and begin a new batch.
Mistakes that make a frame look cheap
- A border so thick that the photo looks small. Try a smaller percent first.
- A strong gradient that fights with the photo. Pick colours that already appear in the picture.
- A heavy shadow on a pale background. A thin line is often cleaner.
- Saving as JPG when the corners are meant to be see-through. Use PNG or WebP.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add a border to a photo?
Drop the photo on the page, choose Colour, Gradient or Blur, set the width, and press Download the picture.
How do I fit a photo to a square without cropping?
Under Fit to a shape, choose Square 1:1. The extra space is filled by your border, so the whole photo stays visible.
Can I add the same border to many pictures?
Yes. Add them all and every picture gets the same border. Save them one by one or as a ZIP.
Can the corners be see-through?
Yes, when you save as PNG, or WebP. JPG cannot hold transparency.
What does the blur border do?
It fills the frame with a soft, enlarged copy of your own photo, so the border matches its colours.
Does the tool upload my picture?
No. The framing happens in your browser.
