Markdown to HTML: Clean Markup, Live Preview, Safe Output

You wrote a post or a README in Markdown and the place it must go wants HTML. Paste it on the left, check the preview, and copy the markup or save a finished page. The Markdown rules were read from the CommonMark specification on 22 October 2026.

Markdown
HTML

Preview

Raw HTML inside the Markdown is left out, and links that would run code are blocked, so the result is safe to paste into a page.

Your text is converted by your own browser, and a copy is kept in this browser only, so it is waiting next time. No server ever receives it.

Getting a written post into a page builder

Many writers draft in Markdown and then need HTML for a CMS rich text field, an email or an embed block. Type or paste into the Markdown box, press Example to see a sample, or open a .md, .markdown or .txt file. The HTML code and a Preview sit beside it and update after a short pause.

A line under the result counts the headings, paragraphs and links it found. Press Copy HTML to put the markup on the clipboard, or Download .html to save it. If you open several files at once, they are all converted and handed back as one ZIP with an .html page for each.

The three switches

SwitchWhen it is on
Ids on headingsEach heading gets an id made from its words, so you can link to a section
Open web links in a new tabLinks starting with http get a new-tab attribute with a safety setting
A whole page with simple stylesThe output becomes a full document with a title taken from your first heading, and some basic styling

Leave the whole page off when pasting into a CMS, since you only want the content. Switch it on when you want a file you can open straight in a browser.

What it understands

The CommonMark specification, version 0.31.2 of 28 January 2024, exists because the original Markdown description left questions open and programs disagreed. Source: CommonMark specification, read 22 October 2026. This converter supports the common parts of CommonMark and of GitHub's style.

  • Headings, paragraphs, bold, italic and strikethrough.
  • Code spans and fenced code blocks, with a language class on the block.
  • Links, bare web addresses and pictures.
  • Nested lists and task lists with boxes.
  • Quotes, tables with alignment, and horizontal rules.

Things outside that list, such as footnotes, are not part of the output, so check anything unusual in the preview.

Safe by design, and what that means for raw HTML

Raw HTML typed inside the Markdown is left out, and links that would run code are replaced with a harmless hash. The preview sits in a sandboxed frame. That makes the result safe to paste into a page, but it also means you cannot rely on this page to carry custom tags, a script or an embed through. Add those in your CMS after pasting.

  • Check that headings start at the level your page expects, since a post title is often an h1 already.
  • Do not paste secrets into any text box you do not need to.
  • Check tables on a small screen once the HTML is live.

A good last check is to read the HTML tab beside the preview. Headings should be h2 and h3 for a post body, lists should be real lists and not paragraphs with dashes, and links should point to full addresses. If a table looks wrong, check that the line of dashes under its header row is present, since the table is not read without it.

Where the markup ends up

On a Webflow site, a rich text field accepts pasted HTML, but heading levels and classes still have to match the design. We set that up for you during a build, as described on our Webflow development page, so the people who write the posts do not need to think about styling.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert Markdown to HTML?

Paste the Markdown into the left box. The HTML appears next to it with a preview, and you can copy it or download it.

Can I get a complete web page?

Yes. Turn on the whole page switch and the output becomes a full document with simple styles and a title from your first heading.

Does it keep raw HTML I type inside Markdown?

No. Raw HTML is left out, and links that would run code are blocked, so the output is safe to paste.

Can I link to a heading?

Switch on ids on headings. Each heading gets an id made from its text.

Can I convert several files?

Yes. Open several at once and you get a ZIP file with one HTML page for each.

Is my text stored?

It is kept in your own browser so it is there next time, and is not sent anywhere.
