Words
Words are counted and drawn in your browser, and nothing is uploaded. Your text and the words you left out are kept on your own device for next time.
What a word cloud is good for
A cloud shows frequency at a glance. Paste customer reviews, survey answers or a page of your own copy and the words that appear most grow largest. It is a quick way to check whether a page talks about what you meant it to, and it makes a lively picture for a slide or a social post. It does not replace analysis, since a cloud cannot show context, so use it to spot patterns and then read the source lines behind them.
Two ways to feed it
In Count the words in my text mode you paste prose and the tool counts the words. In My list with counts mode you give one entry per line in the form word, number, and the number sets the size. That second mode suits data from a survey tool or a spreadsheet.
- Leave out common words removes everyday words like the and and.
- Keep capitals as typed treats Name and name as different words.
- Shortest word and Most words trim the cloud by length and by how many words appear.
- Click a word in the chip list to leave it out, then click again to bring it back.
Shapes, sizes and colours
| Setting | Choices |
|---|---|
| Shape | Fill the picture, circle, cloud, heart, star, diamond |
| Picture size | Wide 16:9, square, portrait 4:5, story 9:16 |
| Colours | Violet, ocean, sunset, forest, rainbow, black ink, or your own HEX codes |
| Background | Dark, white, paper, see-through |
| Font | Sans, serif, mono, rounded, handwritten |
| Turns | All straight, a few upright, half upright, tilted |
Shuffle the layout re-places the words and often gives a better result when one word sits awkwardly.
Saving the result
Download PNG saves a larger version of the picture, Copy picture puts it on your clipboard, and SVG gives a vector file that stays sharp at any size. Word counts CSV saves the list of words and their counts for a spreadsheet. A see-through background is the right choice when the cloud will sit on a coloured slide or a web section.
For a website, match the colours to your brand with the HEX box. If you want a quick palette to start from, try the colour palette generator.
Preparing the text for a cleaner cloud
The best clouds start with tidy input. Remove the question text from survey answers so the questions do not count as words. Merge variants by editing the text first, for example changing plural and singular forms to one spelling, since the tool counts each exact spelling on its own. If a phrase matters, such as customer service, join it with a hyphen before pasting so it is counted as one unit. A hyphenated pair is kept whole by the counter.
Using the picture in a deck or on a page
Pick the size that matches where it will go. Wide suits a slide, square suits a feed post, and story suits a tall phone layout. Use a dark or see-through background when the surrounding design is dark, and check that the smallest words are still readable at the size you will show them. If they are not, raise the shortest word setting or lower the number of words.
Mistakes that make a cloud misleading
- Forgetting to leave out a word that appears in every line, such as the name of the product being reviewed, which then drowns the rest.
- Pasting a very short text, where one repeated word looks more important than it is.
- Reading size as sentiment. A big word is only frequent, not positive or negative.
For a site that needs engaging visuals, our web design and UI/UX service covers how graphics sit in a layout.
Frequently asked questions
Can I make a word cloud in a heart or star shape?

How do I remove words like the and and?
Keep Leave out common words ticked. You can also click any word in the list to leave it out.
Can I use my own counts?
Yes. Switch to My list with counts and type one word and number per line, for example speed, 12.
Can I get a transparent background?
Yes. Choose See-through under Background, then download the PNG or SVG.
Which file should I save?
Use PNG for slides and posts, and SVG when the picture will be resized or printed large.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. Everything runs in your browser, and the saved text stays on your own device.
